2-6 October's Journal
After looking at my notes to see what we have covered this week the first topic I came across was the terms CTS and ITS, and I realized that I don't have enough knowledge about them. I remember you mentioning them as new concepts in the field, so I started to do some research. However, I wasn't entirely satisfied with both the quantity and quality of the results. Nevertheless, if I were to share my thoughts, if I understood it correctly both of them are computer systems. I believe that ITS offers more advantages, or it's a broader concept. CTS, on the other hand, is more specific and content-focused, providing instant feedback primarily for correctness. In contrast, ITS doesn't focus solely on one subject; it aims to provide various skills across different subjects, including problem-solving and critical thinking. These are my thoughts, but I think they need some improvements. Maybe we can discuss more.
When it comes to the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, I watched it for the second time after watching it in 2021 and it was totally a different experience. I focused much more on the things we discussed in class and tried to make connections to this day. I think the most fascinating part of the movie was the beginning. We see apes that are in a fight for survival. They don't know how to communicate or what to do. They are also on the edge of extinction. They can even defend themselves. And the point is that they are our ancestors. I think Kubrick wants to show us that we are no magic, we don't have that much capability, we are limited. Then, a black monolith comes and the apes are all curious about it but they are afraid of it at first. They started to scream at it, they got close to it in time and started licking it. After that scene, I think they got consciousness since now the apes are starting to know how to use tools, starting to eat meat, and getting their first kill. So, in a way, Kubrick shows us the evolution of humankind. It starts with apes and then goes to superhuman or AI we can say. Later comes the most stunning transition of the movie, an ape throws up the bone into the sky and we go from 4 million years ago to 2001 in a second. In fact, we went from the first weapon which is the bone to the latest one the nuclear weapon (which I assume).
I think for the first part of the movie Kubrick wants us to think that Technology is good and we can trust it. By showing us how it is perfect and made no mistakes. However, in the remaining parts of the movie, we see the opposite. I am sure that there are a lot of things to be mentioned, however, these are my brief thoughts regarding the movie. One final note would be about the ending. I think deactivating Hall corresponds to the technology not being in the future. It comes to an end. I am not sure if I am interpreting right but my assumptions are based on the remaining scenes where there is no sign of technology. I am curious about your comments about the ending.
